How to use the forum:

Welcome! We’re so excited that you are joining us in the online book club as we discover today’s best Christian fiction together. As you take a look around and get acclimated, hopefully these tips will help:

  • Here at the forum, we get first dibs. That’s right. We announce the next month’s book ahead of the main site in order to give you time to grab your copy before we start discussions. This is usually announced on the 21st of each month, and is listed as a separate topic under the Featured Book Club forum.
  • We discuss on the 7’s. Ok, well, technically we list the discussion questions on the 7’s. You can add your thoughts at your own schedule and pace. Discussion questions will be posted on the 7th, 14th, 21st, and 28th of each month. These are listed under the Featured Book Club forum as well. If the topic is not at the top of the page, that’s because there’s been recent discussion on another topic. But, it usually remains at the top 5 posts, so just glance down a little.
  • Sometimes—very often actually—we have awesome giveaways. These are typically given by the publisher of the book we are reading that month. In order to enter, all you have to do is join in the discussions. For every comment you make, you are entering to win. If you comment ten times, you’ve just entered to win ten times. Good luck!

Forum Basics:

The forum is located at http://www.shereads.org, under the “Discussion Forum” tag. Of course, if you are reading this, you have already found it. Should your friend have difficulty getting there, maybe this will be helpful to copy and send. J

  • If you would like to introduce yourself, click on the “Introductions” discussion thread and follow the directions below.
  • If you would like to join in the book club discussion, click on the “featured book club” discussion thread and follow the directions below.

To join in on a topic, all you have to do is find the topic you want to comment on, and click on the topic title.

If you want to add your comments to the discussion, hit the “reply to post” at the top of the forum area (with the envelope icon).  If you do this, your comment will be added to the bottom of the replies.

If you want to reply to a specific person’s comment, find the “reply” button on that person’s individual comment (it is located within their comment box, to the right of their name/location). If you do this, that specific comment will be copied and pasted along with whatever you reply. The comment will be highlighted in blue, and your reply will be underneath. Unless you are referring to a specific reply, it is best to use the “reply to comment” button at the top of the forum so that we don’t get a ton of copy/pastes.

If you want to start a new topic, hit the “add a new topic” button at the top of the forum, you will do just that—start a new topic.  If you start a new topic rather than comment on the ongoing thread, please know that you may not get as much interaction as you would if you remained on the main thread.

If you want to follow a discussion, once you type in your response you will also have a variety of “following” options available to you if you would like to follow the thread and be notified by email if other comments are made.

I hope this helps everyone! We all struggle a little with the forum, so don’t worry about it! If I’ve left anything off that you have questions about, please reply to this post and I’ll add to the instructions.

Sweet blessings,

Laura

Thanks Laura this helps a lot!  I do have one question tho.  Is there a way to put up a gravatar image?  I see a couple of people have them but from what I can find, it won't let me do it.

Oh, Linda. You don't know how you are stretching my pea-size-technical-ability. Yell I will pass your question along to the techy-peeps and let you know.Wink

oh , Sarah Jio's newest post offers some seriously good questions that dig deeply into the book and the characters…. really wish we could have focused on that material than the continual rehash of what is or is not a 'christian' book… seems we've missed out on a lot!

especially when Sarah had already prepared this and makes it available? … mmmm sorry to have missed that! Cry

Thanks for that! Was it in the forum or another part of the site?

Sorry you feel that way, fhc. Those questions were the same as the one's offered on her website, and the main site. We try to vary the discussion in the forum, knowing that some read both. Since this was our first reading of a "non-Christian" book within this Christian book club, She Reads felt it was an important discussion to have. If you have suggestions for questions on future books, I'd love to hear them during the discussion period.
