We believe that Story is the shortest distance to the human heart. And for that reason we began the She Reads Book Club in September of 2009 in order to share the novels we love with the largest audience possible. Since then we have introduced dozens of novels to thousands of voracious readers. Our readers are smart, loyal and charming – you’d totally like them. We love them very much!
WHO WE ARE
Marybeth Whalen is co-founder of She Reads and the author of THE MAILBOX, SHE MAKES IT LOOK EASY, THE GUEST BOOK, THE WISHING TREE, and THE BRIDGE TENDER. Her next release THE THINGS WE WISH WERE TRUE releases September 2016 with Lake Union Publishers. Marybeth spends most of her time in the grocery store but occasionally escapes long enough to scribble words and run car pool. She’s always at work on her next novel. Marybeth, her husband, and their six children live in North Carolina.
Ariel Lawhon is the co-founder and editorial director of She Reads. She is a novelist, blogger, and life-long reader who lives in the rolling hills outside Nashville, Tennessee with her husband and four young sons (aka The Wild Rumpus). Her popular novel THE WIFE, THE MAID, AND THE MISTRESS was published in 2014 by Doubleday. Her newest novel FLIGHT OF DREAMS released February 2016, also with Doubleday.
Rachel Corbett Reece is our She Reads Blog Network Coordinator. With us during the earliest days of She Reads, she is back and wrangling our official network of readers and their reviews. Rachel is a prof by day teaching courses in communication, creativity and innovation for the University of North Carolina in Wilmington. By night she cooks with her husband, reads women’s fiction, binge watches The Blacklist, and works on crafting her southern novel. She has two teenagers that are much-loved but drive up her Geico bill.
Abby Belbeck runs our Marketing and Administration Departments, which is fancy talk for “brilliant ideas” and “butt-kicking.” She keeps us all in line and running on time. With a background in administration, project management, marketing and fulfillment, Abby has been an avid reader from birth. If she could describe herself using book titles, she would be “The Lion, The Witch and The Wardobe” meets “Little House on The Prairie.” She currently lives in Nashville, TN with her husband and three children — all of which have more hair than brains.
Tamara Welch is our Online Book Club Leader. She also hosts our monthly Twitter chats. Her first literary loves were The Babysitter’s Club, Nancy Drew, and Sweet Valley Twins. While her reading tastes have changed some, these 3 still hold a special place in her heart- as they introduced her to reading. Book signings, movies, concerts, and baseball games are some of Tamara’s other ideas of fun. An ideal day for Tamara is sitting in her hot pink Adirondack chair with a good book and a frosty cool drink. Her blog (TravelingWithT) was created for the purpose of talking about small town charms and books. Favorite song is “Days Like This ” by Van Morrison and favorite movie is Steel Magnolias. Ultimate dream – opening a book store near a beach so two of her passions could be combined: reading and the beach.
Alison Law is the She Reads publicist. As owner of Alison Law Communications in Atlanta, she has worked with a variety of clients, including authors, book publicity firms, the nation’s largest independent book festival, public relations and advertising agencies, attorneys, accountants, veterinarians and other professional service providers. In 2012, Alison joined the She Reads Blog Network with her website SouthernSpines.com. Southern Spines is an online community that celebrates and promotes southern writers, songwriters and poets, and what the site calls “Books with Backbone.” In her copious free time, Alison is a part-time graduate student at Georgia State University where she is pursuing a master’s degree in English with a concentration in literary studies. She’s also the “football widow” and fan club president of a successful fantasy football writer named Zach.
