A Room Of Her Own — The Writing Space of Claire Cook

7 Comments 29 August 2012

Today’s post by this month’s featured author, Claire Cook | ClaireCookWrite

My husband and I sold our 1890 Victorian in a little beach town on the coast between Boston and Cape Cod and decided to move to suburban Atlanta to be closer to family. So this is my temporary writing space, tucked into a corner of the master bedroom in the house we’re now renovating, the only room not stacked to the ceiling with boxes. When I stare out the window, I can almost imagine the chaos behind me doesn’t exist. I even wrote some of my next novel without doors, with a house full of carpenters and electricians and plumbers coming in and out and telling me about the book they’re going to write one day! I can’t believe I finished it, but I did. My tenth novel is called Time Flies, and will be published by Touchstone in June 2013.

  1. I love your simple writing space Claire! I’ve learned that writing can take place anywhere as long as you want it to happen badly enough!

  2. Anita says:

It’s nice to have a writing corner…and how wonderful you can shut out the chaos and focus on your work.
I dream of a library/writing room some day…my own little corner, but with kids still home, and my desk now a corner of my kitchen…it’s just a dream.

  3. Rebecca Rouse says:

I love your writing space. I’ve spent a life time making ‘nest’ where there was a spot. It works. Good luck with your current refurbish project and the next book hiding in some neat space!

  4. Ariel says:

I have to admit that this is my favorite series that we do here on She Reads. I love, Love, LOVE to see the writing spaces of others.

And Claire, at this point in my life I would trade just about anything to have such a clean, lovely place to write. Thanks so much for sharing this picture with us!

This is my favortie series here too, Ariel. I was so excited when you and Marybeth said yes to the idea. I love to see where people work, live and create!

  6. But where are all the distractions on the desk? ;) I just started Wallflower today and I absolutely love it. Already want to read what comes next from that little space!

  7. Claire Cook says:

I agree, Marybeth! I wrote my first novel in my minivan, so I know firsthand once you can write anywhere!
It will happen, Anita – those years fly by so quickly!
Thanks, Rebecca! An office with a DOOR again will be such a luxury!
You can borrow it any time, Ariel!
    I agree it’s a great series, Rachel!
They started inching there way back in right after the picture, Sara!! SO glad you’re enjoying Wallflower in Bloom! I’m working on revisions for my next novel right this minute – it’s called Time Flies and will be out next June!
