Welcome to those stopping by from today’s Proverbs 31 Ministries devotion. You picked a great day to visit! Instead of a single book club selection for August we are featuring two: Demon, A Memoir and Havah, The Story of Eve by Tosca Lee. As usual we have a fantastic giveaway, courtesy of B&H Publishers: a readers gift basket including copies of both of Tosca’s novels, a book light, coffee mug, and water bottle. Simply leave a comment on this post and you’ll be entered to win.
(If your comment does not appear right away, please don’t get discouraged. I will be traveling most of the day and won’t be able to approve comments until I get home.)
Recently divorced and mired in a meaningless existence, Clay drifts from his drab apartment to his equally lusterless job as an editor for a small Boston press until the night Lucian finds him and everything changes with the simple words: I’m going to tell you my story and you are going to write it down and publish it.
What begins as a mystery soon spirals into chaotic obsession as Clay struggles to piece together Lucian’s dark tale of love, ambition, and grace only to discover that the demon’s story has become his own.
And then only one thing matters: learning how the story ends.
“One day . . . I realized that being angelic and fallen was very similar to being human and fallen–except for one major difference: the provision of a messiah. I immediately wondered what it must feel like to be unquestionably damned–and worse, to watch humans luxuriate in and take for granted the grace made available to them from a doting God. And I thought: Why wouldn’t a fallen angelic creation resent a human recipient of God’s grace? And why wouldn’t a demon want to prove that creature unworthy again and again as a result? Now I knew what it must feel like to be an angelic outsider looking in with jealous eyes and . . . through this new lens Demon: A Memoir was born.” –Tosca Lee
Eve. Myth and legend shroud her in mystery. Now hear her story.
She knew this earth when it was perfect–like her, for a time. Made by God in a manner like no other, she lived in utter peace without flaw in paradise until one fateful decision changed everything. Now, all humanity suffers for her mistake. But what did it feel like then to first sin and be exiled, to see all innocence crumble so vividly, and a strange new world take its place? Experience the epic dawn of mankind through the eyes and heart of Eve–the woman first known as Havah.
Tosca Lee is the critically-acclaimed author of Demon: A Memoir–Christy Award finalist and ForeWord Magazine Book of the Year Silver Award winner–and Havah: The Story of Eve, which received a starred review from Publishers Weekly and 4.5 stars from Romantic Times.

LOVE this website! Will definately be reading these!
I enjoy the suggestions for Christian fiction. Thank you for this ministry.
Thank you for the inspiring messages and I look forward to reading some of these books. I am an avid reader and always looking for good Christian books.
Both books sound intriguing so it would be hard to choose which one I want to read first. It seems like my summer schedule has left little time for reading but I know the shorter days and longer nights of late fall and winter are just around the corner. Both books are now on my ‘soon to read’ list!
what a great premise for a story! (Demon..) We take grace for granted so often. I can’t wait to read this and get a new perspective. (I’m thinking a bit like The Screwtape Letters?)
I’ve never been to your site before.
This is fascinating!
Thanks.
Thank you for the opportunity,
These books look great. This is also a wonderful website.

I work with small children daily. I am struggling with finding the time to spend with God. Everything goes so much smoother when I rely on Him yet somehow amidst the chaos, He often gets pushed aside. Will I ever find the right balance? I am so thankful for Proberbs 31 Ministries. The daily blog is awesome! Amy
Love getting these devotionals and the links to other resources – they are great ideas for our women’s bible study group. Thank you!

Christian fiction is a wonderful way to approach topics that are very sensitive or often hard to approach with new Christians or even those of us who have been followers of Christ for a long time. Interweaving the fiction with scripture has provided a wonderful basis for Bible study in our women’s group. She Reads is a great resource to find books and reviews.
I’m very excited about both of these books. I love to read good Christian fiction, and have just found this blog for the first time! Won’t be my last time to visit, for sure!
I just read the Aug 2 devotion and I completely relate, thank you for challenging me on how I think and look @ things. I even regularly come to a place where I need to make a difficult decision, and I’ve also made very bad decisions. anyhow, thanks for the devo & for this opportunity!
These books sound great. I’m adding them to my “READ” list.
Whoa! Both books sounds intense and really good! The synopsis of/premise behind the first one kind of reminds me of C.S. Lewis’ “The Screwtape Letters,” which is such a poweful book! I can just imagine “Demon” will be equally so!
Entering the drawing for the books. They sound very intense
