Worth Reading – Screen Play, by Chris Coppernoll

chris_c_photoYesterday we met Chris Coppernall and his wife, Christa Parrish. (Make sure you read our Valentines Day Post about how these two remarkable authors met and fell in love)  Today we’re going to meet another woman in Chris’ life: Harper, the main character in his new novel, Screen Play. Harper is a struggling actress (do people still say actress? I do) who arrives in New York City to be the understudy in a major new Broadway play. Though understudy is hardly the role of Harper’s dreams, she is not too proud to take what she can get. As a new Christian, Harper must decide where Christ fits in her life, but God is faithful to show her that when she honors Him, He shows up in amazing ways.

Unlike our pick this month, Just Between You and Me, where the main character, Maggie, is afraid of love, Screen Play’s main theme is the idea of finding love in a busy, fast-paced setting like New York City. Are Harper’s dreams of finding someone to share life with unrealistic? Is it even remotely possible to find love online like her friend suggests, or is she just fooling herself?

If you are fascinated by Broadway, stage acting, Hollywood, or if you just enjoy a good love story, we recommend Screen Play by Chris Coppernall. It’s definitely worth reading!

Sometimes the person farthest away from you is the one closest to your heart . . .

At thirty, Harper fears her chances for a thriving career and true love are both fading fast.  But when Harper is offered an unexpected role in a Broadway play – as understudy to New York’s biggest diva – she wonders if everything is about to change.

Hoping to find love in NYC, Harper reluctantly signs up for an online dating site – but the only match Harper is even remotely interested in lives thousands of miles away.  An actress who doesn’t act, searching for love with someone she’s never seen, Harper longs for God to show her He’s still listening.

Through the contemporary text-message world of Internet dating, Harper learns it’s possible to care for someone outside her own universe.  And as she reaches out through the impersonal world of cyberspace, she becomes more aware than ever of god reaching out to her . . .

Just finished his book Screen Play, thanks to the recommendations from this site. I thoroughly enjoyed his depiction of theater life as well as his colorful analogies. His writing style made you feel like you were right there in the scene with the characters. At first I was skeptical of a male writer portraying a female protagonist’s point of view. But he did an excellent job getting inside Harper’s head. Thanks for introducing us to another author. I look forward to reading some of his other novels.
