She Reads February Selection

by ariel on February 3, 2010

The books we’ve chosen over the last six months cover some deep subjects: the disappearance of a young girl, the Salem witch trials, the curse of the Hope Diamond, mental illness, the AIDS crisis in Africa, and racism.

I don’t know about you, but I could use some laughter. And junk food.

Which brings us to our February book club selection. We decided to lighten things up a bit – seeing as how Valentines Day is right around the corner. And from one friend to another, make sure you come back here on Monday. We’ll be giving away several copies of this novel, and something that…well…let’s just say it will make your mouth water.

version 2

Maggie Montgomery lives a life of adventure. Her job as a cinematographer takes her from one exotic locale to the next. When Maggie’s not working, she loves to rappel off cliffs or go skydiving. Nothing frightens her.

Nothing, that is, except Ivy, Texas, where a family emergency pulls her back home to a town full of bad memories, painful secrets, and people Maggie left far behind . . . for a reason.

Forced to stay longer than she intended, Maggie finds her family a complete mess, including the niece her sister has abandoned. Ten-year-old Riley is struggling in school and out of control at home. The only person who can really handle the pint-sized troublemaker is Conner, the local vet and Ivy’s most eligible bachelor. But Conner and Maggie keep butting heads–he’s suspicious of her and, well, she doesn’t rely on anyone but herself.

As Maggie humorously fumbles her way from one mishap to another, she realizes she’s going to need to ask for help from the one person who scares her the most.

To save one little girl–and herself–can Maggie let go of her fears and just trust God?

You can read the first chapter here.

Jenny B. Jones is the award-winning author of A Charmed Life series and Just Between You and Me, a She Reads selection for 2010. When she’s not wiling away the hours at the keyboard (translation: checking Facebook), she is imparting wisdom and joy to ninth graders in her classroom. She lives in Arkansas where she avoids housework, communes with the Ozarks, and eats more than her share of Fruity Pebbles.

Oh, and may we offer one small suggestion? Friend Jenny on Facebook. She makes us laugh. Every. Single. Time.

Which is reason #738 why we chose Just Between You and Me as our February selection.

I read the first chapter and will definitely continue on. A worthwhile read that covers an area in life we all tend to struggle with to various degrees.

God has been showing me how the fear of rejection has been a huge wall for me. I love the way he gently shows us what we need to see. I love humor too, because we need to laugh! Thanks for showing me this book, I want to read it, and think it would make a great gift too!

I’m very much interested in this book since fear of not succeeding is one battle that I’m facing. I’m learning to lean on God for His direction and guidance and find fulfillment in His grace.

Thanks for writing books that share some many issues that women face in our daily struggles. God bless.

Ahhh, fear. It can be a good thing when it’s the healthy fear of the Lord. However, so often, in my life at least, it’s the fear that’s due to lack of belief in our God’s awesome power and perfect love which casts out fear. I pray often for my fears to diminish and seek to serve the Lord in all that I do as I pray to Him without ceasing. Sometimes I stay awake at night with all the thoughts of fearful this and fearful that. Just last night I couldn’t sleep and I prayed and thought about Jesus. I asked for sleep, but it just didn’t come. So, I prayed some more. I wonder at times if the Lord uses our fears to alert us to good vs bad. What do you think?

Really looking forward to reading your book, Jenny. Not sure which fear is my worst — fear of rejection or fear of success.
