A Special Message From Tom Davis

2 Comments 07 December 2009

She Reads is delighted to partner with Children’s Hopechest this Christmas to help feed and rescue thousands of orphans around the world. Tom Davis, author of SCARED (one of our featured winter selections) is the CEO of Children’s Hopechest. An outspoke child-advocate, Tom spends much of his time ministering to orphans face to face. Currently in Ethiopia, he has a special message for here at She Reads:

She Reads Greetings from Ethiopia from Children’s HopeChest on Vimeo.

A little more from Tom:

As I travel through a country ravaged by HIV/AIDS, I wanted to encourage you to promote awareness of the dramatic impact AIDS has on orphans.

In the African nations where we work, there is a generation of AIDS orphans left behind. It fuels not only extreme poverty, but child abuse and sexual abuse of the worst kind.

In Russia, AIDS grows by the day, often helped along by sex trafficking of young girls from orphanages.

Fortunately we can and are doing something in both cases.

I just wanted to encourage you with two thoughts that I hope you’ll pass along to your  friends and family this Christmas season:

1. HopeChest is protecting over 1,000 Russian orphans from sex trafficking and crime throughout our Ministry Center, Family Center, and Independent Living Center programs.

2. HopeChest is rescuing 10,000 orphans from extreme poverty by supporting feeding programs, health and education initiatives, and Christian discipleship throughout Ethiopia, Uganda, and Swaziland.

In those places, there is no sex trafficking or extreme poverty. We are making a difference.

One of the ways that happens is through an initiative called 5 for 50. This is a small way that just $5 can make a difference for someone who has been impacted by AIDS–particularly orphans in Africa.

Go to www.5for50.com to find out more about the 5 simple ways that YOU can make a difference in the global AIDS crisis.

And, be sure to pass that message of hope along to those who can join us.

Thanks so much for being on this journey with us.

For the Fatherless,
Tom Davis
CEO, HopeChest

This Christmas, as you work to fill the empty space beneath your tree, will you consider foregoing one present and donating the money to Children’s Hopechest so they can fill a hungry child’s belly instead? Will you give the ultimate gift of freedom to a young girl facing life in the child sex industry?

$5 can feed a child in Africa for a month.

$20 can save a girl from life as a sex slave.

And yet, in America, we will spend 450 billion dollars “celebrating” Christmas. As we celebrate, let’s honor the sacrifice that Jesus made and show mercy to the least of these.

Blessings on your family, and may you have a merciful Christmas.

Warmly,

The She Reads Team
